Mission Statement: To provide all people of Anson County with the knowledge, relationships and necessary resources to achieve economic stability.

The second Getting Ahead™ class graduated Dec. 16, 2010, with friends and family invited to the ceremony and dinner. Please enjoy the slide show of the event. Hit "refresh" to return to the beginning.

The class, "Getting Ahead™ in a Just-Getting-By World" investigates the causes of poverty from a personal, community and global view.
The class meets Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, located at 118 E. Morgan in Wadesboro. The evening begins with a light supper for everyone and supervised childcare during class sessions.
During class, investigators learn how to use the hidden rules of class that open the doors to new relationships, new jobs and greater resources. They explore the impact of poverty on their lives, investigate economic realities, complete a self-assessment of their resources, learn how to build their resources and develop a mental model of community prosperity.
To qualify you must make less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, complete an application and attend an enrollment meeting with the Circles of Hope Coach. Enrollment is limited to persons most appropriate for and willing to commit to becoming a Circle Leader. Enrollment is limited to twelve (12) participants. For more information, please call 704-994-2333.
A stipend is given to each participant at the end of each class. The September 2011 through March 2012 class is filled. An announcement will be made about the next Getting Ahead Class to begin possibly during the Summer of 2012.

Who Am I?

Who am I?
The question I ask
when I stare in the mirror.
What I really want to say is, I am ...
But something always stops me.
And I think it's the blur in the mirror
because all it's letting me see
is the hurt and pain,
my tainted and bliss scars of being broken
that's breaking my spiritual gate
of never being open.
I'm trapped,
trapped behind the great walls of depression,
being kicked down by my past.
Reaching for a hand to hold
to pull me out into life,
screaming to be free.
Fighting and running for my life.
Try to find me in myself to answer
who am I? I still ask.
Well, right now I am a soldier in this war,
battling my past and everything
the Devil throws at me.
Fighting for freedom
'cause God knows I want to be free.

Free to look in into the mirror
and know what I see.
A future to look forward to
and success in me.
